2026 Official Pickleball Rule Book and Rule Changes
March 2, 2026
Pickleball BC announced the release of the 2026 Official Pickleball Rulebook in English and French versions via the Pickleball Canada Organization’s website.

The rulebook follows an annual process where USA Pickleball’s Rules Committee approves updates, which PCO then reviews for Canadian adoption. Provincial organizations like PBC subsequently implement these rules for sanctioned events.
According to the rulebook, it provides rules for “recreational, social, organized league” play and tournament formats, with sections addressing standard play, tournament modifications, and adaptive play for athletes with disabilities.
Top 10 Rule Changes for 2026:
- Strict volley serve mechanics requiring upward arc with paddle below wrist
- Automatic fault if second ball visible in player’s pocket during rally
- Mandatory pre-match paddle inspection with match forfeiture for non-compliance
- Removal of “freeze” in rally scoring
- Enhanced clarity on serve mechanics
- Stricter timing requirements for out calls
- Explicit bans on surface treatments generating excessive spin
- Referee authority to issue warnings during warmups
- Improved adaptive rules including two-bounce allowance
- Players prohibited from consulting spectators on out calls
